Pain Specialist - With special interest in Musculoskeletal Medicine

About Dr Taras Hembram

Dr Taras is a Pain Specialist with a special interest in Musculoskeletal Medicine. He provides patient-focused, goal-directed care using a multidisciplinary team approach.

Pain specialists support individuals living with acute, chronic, cancer-related and complex pain by taking a whole-person approach. This involves considering not only biomedical factors, but also psychological and social contributors that can precipitate and perpetuate pain and disability. Care commonly includes patient education and the development of best-practice, evidence-based management plans tailored to each individual. Where appropriate, out of the box approaches may also be considered. The aim is to improve daily functioning and overall quality of life, rather than focusing solely on pain.

In Australia, approximately one in five people aged 45 years and over live with persistent pain. This type of pain can be disabling and distressing, often affecting movement, work capacity, sleep and mood.

Dr Taras has worked and trained in Australia since 2008, including time as a Rural General Practitioner before returning to Adelaide. He completed a Diploma in Child Health at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide and has several years of experience in Emergency Medicine. He has also undertaken additional training in Musculoskeletal Medicine.

In addition to his work in both public and private pain management settings, Dr Taras continues to contribute to rural and regional healthcare through ongoing service in Emergency Departments.

Dr Taras is happy to assist with a wide range of pain conditions, including:

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

  • Primary and secondary musculoskeletal pain

  • Pain related to cancer or its treatment

  • Neuropathic pain, including diabetic neuropathy and post-stroke pain

  • Headaches and orofacial pain, including trigeminal neuralgia

  • Post-traumatic and post-surgical pain (such as pain following amputation or surgery)

  • Pelvic pain and other visceral pain conditions

Dr Taras approach reflects his core philosophy of care:

“My goal is to move beyond the numbers on a pain scale and focus on what truly matters: your ability to move, work, and enjoy life.”
