Understanding the Process: What to Expect When You See a Specialist Physician
You will need a valid referral to see our Specialists
This is extremely important. A valid referral can be obtained from either your General Practitioner (GP) or another Specialist. Aside from communicating the nature of your medical issues, a valid referral is required to access a Medicare rebate for medical services provided on the day of your appointment.

Referrals
You’ll need a valid referral from your GP or another specialist to claim any eligible Medicare rebate for your appointment.

The specialists who consult at Specialists on Hutt are independent private practitioners. Consultation fees are set by each doctor and payment is required on the day. In some cases, we may request a deposit or full pre-payment.
Payment options: Cash, Visa, Mastercard, EFTPOS (a surcharge may apply). Some doctors may offer concession rates for Pension/Concession Card holders—please ask when booking. We do not accept cheques or money orders.

We understand that things can happen at short notice, which is why we try to avoid charging for non-attendance where possible. However, late changes often can’t be offered to another patient.
Repeated cancellations within 48h of scheduled appointments/No shows: We may request a deposit or full pre-payment to confirm future bookings if you repeatedly cancel/reschedule your appointments at short notice

Our reception team can lodge your claim to Medicare for any eligible rebate. Please ensure your referral is current and that your bank account is registered with Medicare so rebates can be paid directly to you.

If your appointment is related to a claim, please bring your claim number, case manager details, and written approval for the consult. Upfront payment of fee may be required on the day.
International Visitors & Temporary Visa holders
Emergencies
Full payment is required on the day. If you hold overseas health insurance (e.g., OSHC), we will provide an invoice so you can claim directly with your insurer. If you do not hold private health insurance, you are liable for all costs.

We are not an emergency service. For urgent care call 000 or attend your nearest Emergency Department.
